- Belize’s first female lieutenant colonel
As the Belize Defence Force’s first female lieutenant colonel, Dr. Lydia Guerra is celebrating a historic achievement.
The BDF said her achievement is a testimonial to her effort and skills and an inspiration for aspiring leaders nationwide.
Dr. Guerra, a mother of two kids, is now the Force Medical Officer, using her internal medicine and infectious disease skills.
Dr. Guerra’s education says volumes. Her degrees include a Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine/Infectious Diseases (University of Guyana, 2021), Military Medical Surgeon (University of the Army and Air Force, Mexico, 2011), Bachelor of Science in Biology (University of Belize, 2005), and more.
The Belize Defence Force said Dr. Guerra has always provided medical care to soldiers and their families, from her days as a captain to her current post as an internal medicine expert. Her HIV/AIDS preventive work and Belize Defence Force leadership demonstrate her dedication to health.
Dr. Guerra’s contributions are international, according to the BDF. She has shaped healthcare policy and practices as a UNDP consultant and in international courses.
Dr. Guerra’s recent Aeronautical Medicine and Fundamental Critical Care Support courses demonstrate her dedication to professional growth.
HIV prevention, behavioural epidemiology, and risk reduction programmes are among her worldwide publications.
