- 90 NEW LOTS TO BE MADE AVAILABLE IN NORTH LEEWARD, ST VINCENT
Ninety (90) Lots are being surveyed in Fitz Hughes, North Leeward to further augment the housing development agenda of the Government in that constituency.
Area representative Carlos James, made the pronouncement during his recent visit to “Hollywood,” Cumberland with the API.
Minister James said “we have identified some lands just above the Vinlec power station, gently sloping but road access and other amenities will be installed, and we’re going to see how we can further develop that area for housing both from the Volcano Recovery Project but also we will be focusing on expanding the housing stock for young professionals; police officers, nurses and teachers within the area.”
The Minister noted that as part of the rural transformation project, this along with other developments in TVET and tourism will add to the overall improved prospects for residents in North Leeward.
In addition to these developments, the tourism minister further stated that a third financial institution is poised to take up commercial activity in the constituency as the decentralization of economic services continue across the country.
Meanwhile, at Cumberland, eight (8) new prefabricated homes are at various stages of construction, purchased from Guyana, as part of the recovery activities following the 2021 eruptions of the La Soufriere Volcano.
On January 20 2023, the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines signed a 6 million EC loan arrangement with Demerara Bank Ltd (Guyana) for the purchase of fifty (50) pre-fab houses.
Currently, there are 21 Prefab houses in the country Twelve (12) two-bedroom and nine (9) two-bedrooms houses.
The houses were distributed in North Leeward, North Central Windward and North Windward.
