Parade from City Hall to Bowling Green for St Vincent’s 50th Independence
On Thursday morning, a flag-raising ceremony was conducted at Bowling Green Square, located at Broadway and Whitehall Street in downtown Manhattan, New York, to commemorate the 44th anniversary of St Vincent’s (SVG) independence.
During his address at the ceremony, Chairman Arthur Piccolo of the Bowling Green Association acknowledged that this occasion marks the second iteration of the event and urged all individuals from St Vincent and the Grenadines living in New York to continue attending.
Piccolo expressed his anticipation for the forthcoming commemoration of the 50th anniversary of St Vincent’s Independence.
According to Piccolo, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Broadway will be temporarily closed and a parade would be organized, commencing from City Hall and concluding at Bowling Green.
During the flag-raising ceremony, Keisal Peters, the foreign minister of St. Vincent, expressed that despite the nation’s modest dimensions, its influence on the global stage is becoming increasingly apparent. According to Peters, the capacity of SVG’s population to recover from multiple hardships demonstrates the tenacity and fortitude of its inhabitants.
Counsels general of Trinidad, St Kitts, Haiti, and St Lucia were in attendance for the flag-raising event.
