In his remarks during the first session of the 12th Parliament of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Prime Minister Friday offered extensive praise and congratulations to the new Speaker of the House, Durham-Balcombe
Friday described her as a “brilliant daughter of the soil” and an “outstanding professional” known for her work as a lawyer.
He expressed admiration for her ability to take on the “demanding public role” while managing a “full slate of duties” as a mother of young children and a wife. He referred to her as “truly a wonder” for balancing these obligations.
Friday thanked Durham-Balcombe for accepting the “call to duty” and congratulated her on being “acclaimed unopposed” as Speaker.
The Prime Minister noted that those who know her were not surprised by her willingness to accept the challenge or by the support she received from the members of the House.
While acknowledging that the House can occasionally become “raucous,” Friday stated he is “very confident” in her abilities. He remarked that, having seen her work over the years, he believes she is “well prepared to handle the business” of the honorable chamber.
Friday expressed gratitude for Durham-Balcombe presence and wished her a “successful stint” that is both “long and fruitful”.
Durham-Balcombe is the wife of businessman and former New Democratic Party candidate for North Central Windward – Cameron “Dinky” Balcombe.
