- St Vincent Gov’t Announces Construction of Georgetown Market
St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Government is expected to re-build the Georgetown Market Place this year (2024).
Minister of Urban Development Benarva Browne said although the market place is located in North Windward, it’s expected that it would serve both constituencies since persons within these areas are heavily entrenched within the agriculture industry.
“The Georgetown marketplace, is where people meet to buy and sell, but it’s already an established market. So we are basically going to provide, a safer, healthier environment for people to ply their trades”.
“ The market would also include butcher stalls , space to be expanded as well and dedicated spaces for 30 vendor stalls” .
Browne said the re-developed market would also have an office for manager, a cleaning area and for security.
According to Browne the demolition of the building on the existing site would happen this year (2024) as well as the start and construction of the market.
