Conditions that had to be met for the construction of the Ginger Village Road is now settled, this was disclosed by Minister of Transport and Works Senator Julian Francis on Monday 28th August 2017.

The contract for works was awarded to Dipcon Engineering in September of 2016. Francis noted that works will now commence by the 1st of October 2017.

Earlier this month Francis said that When projects are funded by external agencies, banks or even governments, there are conditions by which the money is given.

He said there were land matters and the government had to acquire land, and under the World Bank rules all lands that are acquired, there has to be proof that government has paid for those properties.

On September 2, 2013, a large landslide occurred on the Belmont main road in the area of Ginger Village – rendering the road impassable.

The road is the main inland arterial road that connects several large communities between Mt. Pleasant/Peruvian Vale and Arnos Vale viz Fairhall, Belmont, Mesopotamia, Ginger Village, Evesham, Hopewell, Calder and Richland Park.

According to a World Bank Report, the objective of the project would be to stabilise the slope thus facilitating the reconstruction of the road.

Several technical options of using alternate routes have been considered, but they have not been found technically and economically viable due to increased distances, difficult road alignments and higher costs.
