The Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will recognise their 106th anniversary since the start of Girl Guiding in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines while also joining 10 million members worldwide in the annual celebration of World Thinking Day 2020 under the theme “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion”.
This year’s local celebrations will commence on Friday 21st February, 2020 with the annual Althea Commissiong Brownie Public Speaking Competition at the Girl Guides Headquarters in Level Gardens from 3:30 in the afternoon. The purpose of the competition is to empower Brownie Guides and enable them to develop self-confidence, a creative imagination, empathy, and maturity in interpersonal skills.
The topic for this year’s competition is “We are all taught to love our neighbour as ourselves. In what ways have you seen persons disobey this teaching, and how do you think each of us can try to do better?” There are eight participants in Friday’s competition hailing from the Windward Division as far as Byera in the North, the town of Troumoca in the Leeward Division and several participants from the Kingstown/Grenadines Division. Schools are encouraged to send contingents to support their participants in the competition.

On World Thinking Day, Saturday 22nd February 2020, the Bim Bims, Brownie Guides, Girl Guides, Ranger Guides, Young Leaders and Guiders of the Association will have the Thinking Day Parade starting at 1:45pm from the area in front of the Saint Vincent Building and Loan Association in full uniform. The parade will move through the streets of Kingstown from 2:15 p.m. to the Russell’s Auditorium.
