‘I Will Be There on the Platform God’s Willing’
Former Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has signaled that he has no intention of quietly stepping away from politics, confirming that he plans to participate in the 2030 general election campaign.
Speaking in an interview on The Corie Sheppard Podcast, the veteran politician—who served nearly 25 years as Prime Minister before transitioning into his current role as Leader of the Opposition—addressed his political future and plans for upcoming election cycles.
When asked directly about his presence in the 2030 election, Gonsalves clarified that while his leadership role within the party may evolve, his active involvement on the campaign trail remains certain. “Well, even though I’m not leading the party, I will be there on the platform, God willing,” Gonsalves stated.
Gonsalves also outlined his primary mandate as Leader of the Opposition following his electoral defeat, stating that his objective is straightforward. “I’ve told the parliament of St. Vincent and the Grenadines that my role in the opposition is very simple: to oppose, to propose, to expose, and to depose the current government constitutionally in the shortest possible time,” he emphasized.
Despite the political shift after decades at the helm of government, Gonsalves maintained that he remains in reasonably good health and undeterred in spirit. “The fact that I’m defeated electorally, my brain is not defeated, my spirit is not defeated,” he noted, asserting that he continues to offer active political service to the nation.
