(thegrenadainformer) – A sixty-four-year-old man from Grand Anse Valley in St George’s has been placed on eight thousand dollars bail with one surety on a charge linking him to the sexual assault of a fifteen-year-old boy in the village.

The accused who goes by the name of Clifton Smith alias “Santa” a former shopkeeper, appeared before Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill at the St. Georges Magistrate Court on Monday following his arrest by officers attached to the South St George Police Station last Wednesday.

According to information reaching the Grenada Informer, Santa was arrested following a complaint made relative to his behaviour by residents in the village.

During his brief stint in Court, Santa, unrepresented by legal counsel assured the court that he intended to secure the services of a lawyer to look after his interest in the matter. He was also reminded by the court that the state would not be responsible for providing legal representation for matters of such nature and therefore he must make is own arrangement.

When Santa appeared before the Chief Magistrate on Monday he had already received bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars with two sureties. However, being unable to find a bailer, the total was reduced to eight thousand dollars with one surety.

Santa is due back in court on March 16th for his second appearance.
