Every Grenada kid who took the 2023 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) will be enrolled in a secondary school in September 2023, but the Ministry of Education will not publicize student scores and rankings.
During a Post Cabinet media meeting this week, Education Minister David Andrew made these two big announcements. Andrew explained that the project comes in the context of the government’s larger policy position and thinking, which is to include skills in a more robust way in the school system and compel education legislatively until the age of 18.
He stated that the whole list of kids who took the CPEA exam this year will be published in alphabetical order, and that each child will be placed.
The names, as well as the allocated secondary school and the current primary school, will be devoid of scores and rankings. Schools will be given a list of the pupils they submitted with the accompanying evaluation results.
The Minister mentioned a CPEA exam policy that allows students who place in the top 200 to attend the institution of their choice. The Ministry of Education will send the names of pupils who merit placement in a secondary school straight to the schools.
“As for the policy, we are not denying the students their right,” David explained.
According to the education minister, all individuals will receive a personalized CXC report covering performance, rank, score, areas of strength and weakness, which has traditionally been supplied to schools.
