Gunman tried to infiltrate Guyana State House
According to the police in Guyana, an assailant and a police guard were hurt in an altercation outside the State House today. They are both said to be in critical condition.
President Irfaan Ali and his family live at the State House.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at 7.30 a.m. today at the southern guard house on Carmichael Street.
The police stated that investigations found that a security detail was on duty at the southeastern guard hut near Carmichael Street when a guy accosted the security stating: “I want the President”.
The man then took a knife from his pants waist and stabbed one of the male Police ranks who were on duty five times to his neck and around his body, according to the police.
The intruder then robbed a ranked member of the security detail of his handgun.
The attacker then drew his weapon, fled to Carmichael Street, and fired six shots. The attacker was injured when the security detail returned fire.
A 9MM handgun and seven expended 9MM rounds were recovered. Both the suspect and the police officer were transported to the GPHC for treatment. Their conditions are described as critical. The investigations are still underway.
