On Monday, an official inquiry into the BOSAI Mining disaster that resulted in the death of employee Neptrid Hercules will commence.
On Monday, Guyana’s Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, created a 10-person inquiry committee.
The projected duration of the study is six weeks.
The Ministry of Labor observes that the inquiry conforms to Section 72 (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Chapter 99:06 of the Guyana Statutes.
The designated individuals are referred to as “The court” and “must conduct the inquiry in open court in such a way and under such conditions as the court may deem most effective for determining the causes and circumstances of the accident,” according to the ministry.
Charles Ceres, a geotechnical engineer, chairs the investigation team.
Emilia Maslen, Victor Fernandes, Jimmy Reece, Michael A. Howard, Krishna Ramdas, Neza King, Darwin Bourne, Alyia Williams, and Colis Primo are the remaining committee members.
When a portion of the East Montgomery Mine collapsed on March 11, Hercules and the CAT D9T bulldozer he was operating were buried.
The body of Hercules was discovered several days later by rescuers.
