- Husband murders wife, 56, accused of having an affair
Police are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred late on Sunday allegedly sparked by claims of infidelity.
Police said that the body of 56-year-old Sarah Bacchus Arjoon, a saleswoman from Recht-Door-Zee of West Bank Demerara was discovered by her 13-year-old daughter, who had returned home and discovered it in a pool of blood inside a bedroom.
“The teen also found her father gasping for breath on the bed, emitting a strong smell of poison,” the police said in a statement.
“When police arrived at the scene, they questioned the murder suspect, who admitted to ingesting a poisonous substance, and he directed ranks to the area where he threw the bottle suspected to contain the poisonous substance,” the statement added.
The police said the husband, Khemraj Arjoon, 69, succumbed on Sunday night at the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he had been admitted under guard.
“A note implicating Sarah in an alleged affair was found nearby. The note was written on a piece of cardboard,” police said.
Police said that the suspected murder weapon, a knife was found at the scene.
