Pharmacies across SVG are reporting an upsurge in sales today. This following an announcement on Wednesday night by government officials that the country has its first imported case of coronavirus.
The announcement was made at a press conference held by the Ministry on Wednesday 11th March 2020 and disseminated by the Minister of Health.
The individual returned from the UK on March 7th, the patient is expected to make a full recovery since the symptoms are mild.
Among the items being the most sort after are Hand sanitizers, Face Mask, Rubbing alcohol, Gloves. Some businesses are reporting an upsurge in the sales of “Strong Rum”.
St Vincent and the Grenadines is moving to acquire equipment to test persons for the coronavirus and will invest US$100,000 to procure them.
Minister of Health and Wellness, Luke Browne indicated the government is focused on establishing in-country testing, as all tests are currently sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in T&T.
An isolation facility will also be established in Argyle on a property that has no immediate dwelling places in its surroundings.
