Hon. Saboto Caesar will deliver the keynote address at an event on Small Island Developing States (SIDs) Innovative Approaches to Fisheries Management on Thursday 8 June 2017.

The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries was invited by the CARICOM Fisheries Secretariat to address delegates at the activity to be held during the High-Level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resource for sustainable development.

The event will provide a forum to exchange views and share information on the ongoing initiatives to build capacity and improve management, conservation and sustainable use of fisheries to achieve SDG 14 Target 4 which aims to effectively regulate harvesting, and end overfishing, Illegal , Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, to restore fish stocks, in the shortest time feasible, to levels that can produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by their biological characteristics.

The result of the programme would be to highlight best practices from the Caribbean Region, highlight critical gaps and needs and announce partnerships for advancing key activities in the sector.

Sponsorship for the side event is provided by the Government of Norway and the United Nations University Fisheries Training Programme, Iceland.
