Hundreds of Vincentians descended on heritage square Sunday 11th December 2016,  for the launch of what is considered a unique tradition, SVG’S Nine Mornings festival.

The Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra brought Christmas carols to life on the pan, while the RSVG police force band, the Cadet Corp Band, and the Rose Bank Boom Drum filled the streets of Kingstown with music for the season, leading the parade around nation’s capital.

Pastor Gilbert Porter of the New Testament Church of God Belair reminded persons in attendance that,  Christ is the reason for the season and not the amount of alcohol consumed around this time of year.

Minister of Tourism, Sports, and Culture Cecil Mckie speaking at the launch said, St Vincent and the Grenadines has one of the best Christmas festivals in the world.

Mc Kie said in addition to the concerts they would be lighting up the country, and are asking persons throughout the various communities to come and support the events.

Mckie also said this year in addition to the nine morning’s activities, for the second year the nine nights concerts will return to run alongside the early morning activities.

He said Botanical Gardens would be the venue for the night concerts. “we have been building the festival, in fact, at the conclusion of the 2015 nine mornings activities, all of the stakeholders were ask to come together to discuss and make ready for the 2016 festival,” Mckie said.

Mckie also declared the festival open with the official turning on of Christmas lights at Heritage square.

The next event on the calendar would be the Green Hill and Couls Hill Light Up / Karaoke night.

These events will take place on Tuesday 13th December starting at 7pm, at both venues.
