InterCaribbean Flight 713 to Barbados was forced to return to Dominica shortly after departure from Douglas-Charles Airport due to a mechanical issue on Friday afternoon.
The airline acknowledged to Barbados TODAY that the technical issue led to a precautionary shutdown of one of the plane’s engines. However, the aircraft landed safely and passengers were accommodated on another trip.
Flight monitoring data showed that the plane, which took off at 1:15 p.m. for Grantley Adams International Airport, did numerous loops just east of Dominica before returning to the airport.
“The incident occurred minutes after takeoff, when the pilot detected an anomaly in one of the aircraft’s engines,” InterCaribbean stated. “According to our usual operating procedures, the captain shut down the problematic engine as a precautionary step before returning to Marigot, where the aircraft landed without incident. Emergency protocols were put in place, and emergency services were on standby while the plane safely landed.”
