interCaribbean Airways has begun scheduled service with the Embraer E170, the largest and newest jet in its fleet. Flying alongside the EMB 120 Brasilia and the ERJ 145, the E170 makes interCaribbean the only airline in the world simultaneously operating three Embraer aircraft platforms within its fleet.
The E170 carries 76 customers in a 2-2 cabin. With no middle seats, every customer gets a window or an aisle seat with more space at every stage of the journey. It also brings range the airline hasn’t had before, which opens up route possibilities well beyond what the current network offers.
“We started flying Embraer aircraft because they suited the Caribbean,” said Dr. Lyndon Gardiner, Chairman and Founder of interCaribbean Airways. “Short runways, small islands, thin markets, performance, speed and comfort. Thirty-five years on, three generations of that same family are on our ramp at the same time. No other airline in the world can say that, and it says something about how far we’ve come.”
Two E170s are in service now. Six more will join the fleet over the coming months as the company continues its expansion plans.
“This is the beginning of a much bigger story,” said Trevor Sadler, Chief Executive Officer. “The E170 changes what’s possible for us. More seats where we’re already full, and reach into markets we simply couldn’t serve before. We have a lot to share over the next year, and we’d rather show people than talk about it.”
The aircraft will operate across the interCaribbean network, with Providenciales, Bridgetown, Georgetown, Kingston, Antigua, Nassau, Santo Domingo, St. Kitts, Havana and Santiago de Cuba among the stations expected to see the E170 on a regular basis.
