Airlines restore Caribbean flights after US military operation in Venezuela disrupts travel
Flights to St Vincent and other Caribbean islands are expected to resume from today, Sunday 4 January.
A major US military intervention in Venezuela on Saturday led to the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro, caused an immediate and widespread travel chaos throughout the Caribbean.
Following the operation, the Federal Aviation Administration enforced strict airspace closures that resulted in hundreds of flight cancellations for major carriers like JetBlue and Southwest.
Popular vacation spots, including St Vincent, Puerto Rico, Aruba, and Barbados, saw thousands of travelers stranded as airlines suspended operations due to the regional instability.
While the logistical disruptions forced many families to extend their holidays at significant personal expense, officials announced that flight restrictions would lift shortly after the illegal invasion of the South American nation.
Airlines have since begun restoring their schedules and adding extra flights to help return passengers to their destinations as the region stabilizes.
