- JetBlue Is Its Cutting Flights to This Caribbean Island
Caribbean Journal reports that JetBlue would eliminate its single Caribbean island flight. JetBlue will end service between New York and Poite-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, hurting the destination’s US tourism efforts.
The carrier will not resume winter service to the island, as it had for years.
“These decisions are never easy,” JetBlue told Caribbean Journal. The company claimed Guadeloupe was one of several markets had “recently fallen short of our expectations.”
With regular service between Miami and Pointe-a-Pitre, American Airlines will be the only US-Guadeloupe airline.
Only Air France’s occasional Miami-Guadeloupe service offers nonstop service from the US.
The French Caribbean archipelago, recognised for its world-class rums, has one of the most diverse tourism products in the region, from its remarkable culinary scene to its yachting and volcano and rainforest eco-tourism.
However, its lack of medium to big, international-standard branded resorts has made it impossible to attract American tourists.
It’s unfortunate, considering the area includes charming smaller resorts like La Toubana and Habitation Saint Charles, where we just stayed.
When visiting Guadeloupe, consider visiting the Guadeloupe Islands.
