Under the overarching theme of “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all,” the mission serves as a critical opportunity for the new administration to establish its international bona fides and secure strategic partnerships.
The delegation includes a mix of diplomats, policy advisors, and technical support staff intended to maximize the impact of the ten-day mission, Senator Lavern King stated in a Facebook post.

The traveling delegation will be bolstered by the permanent diplomatic infrastructure already in New York, led by Her Excellency Vynnette Frederick, Permanent Representative to the UN, and her team at the Permanent Mission.
King, in a move clearly aimed at neutralizing domestic political pushback over travel expenditures, took the unusual step of proactively defending the mission’s fiscal footprint.
King highlighted that Senators Jemalie John and Chelsea Alexander are attending at their own personal expense, framing their presence as a commitment to professional development rather than a drain on the public purse. Furthermore, the Prime Minister’s own travel is being covered by inviting international bodies.
King in a sharp jab at the previous administration, King noted that concurrent missions—such as Minister Stephenson and Minister Huggins’ trip to Taiwan—are being fully funded by host nations, suggesting a level of international “goodwill” and “offered coverage” that they claim was lacking in the past.
“Those who wish to scrutinise public expenditure are entitled to do so, but that scrutiny should be based on the facts about who is travelling, why they are travelling and, importantly, who is actually being funded by the State.”
King said the mission is structured around a high-stakes environmental and economic agenda.

The inclusion of Sharon Jones, Senior Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, underscores this priority, she stated.
The scheduled Diaspora Outreach and Investment Forum, held in tandem with Invest SVG under Ambassador Kevin Hope’s guidance, seeks to pivot the diaspora from traditional “barrel-sending” to structured investment in the country’s burgeoning sectors, King noted.
