Aljay Patterson a young man from the Langley Park community at Georgetown was a very happy man when he walked out of the High Court a freed of an Unlawful Sex Charge.
Patterson was told by Justice Brian Cottle that the jury had found him not guilty on the charge of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 years at Langley Park.
During the trial which began on Friday, January 18th, 2019 the victim testified that on the date in question she was returning from her grandmother’s home and on reaching by a river she met Patterson whom she would have known as “Blackman”.
The Court also heard that it was during such time Patterson held the victim by the hand and told her not to tell anyone. She, however, informed her mother after she fell ill several months after.
During the cross-examination, Patterson told the Court that he was innocent and that where the victim said he had sex with her is an area where several houses are situated and anybody would have seen them.
Seven of the jury did not believe the victim’s story.
