Largest Payment In Decades! $1.3m For Arrowroot Farmers And Workers

Kingstown, St Vincent – The Arrowroot Association has noted that the 2017/18 arrowroot season was a great success.

With two more weeks of harvesting remaining, the Association will make one of the largest payments in decades today – 6th of June, 2018 in the sum of $1.3m to arrowroot farmers and workers.

98% of the farmers are currently residing in the Constituency of North Windward.

In a recent answer in Parliament, the Hon. Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture noted that the increase in price for arrowroot starch has brought significant interest to the industry.

The Association has successfully passed the one million pounds of rhizomes mark in purchasing, tripling the production over the last 10 years.

The Association has entered into a joint venture arrangement with WINFRESH to facilitate the efficient marketing of the starch.

Over 150 farmers will receive payments today. This will facilitate preparation for the 2018/19 season.

The government and people of India will be providing financial support to the industry in the area of processing.

This project will begin in July of 2018.
