On July 21, 2026, 55-year-old Sonya Mathews, a domestic worker from Layou, appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate Court.
She was charged with criminal trespass following an incident on July 2, 2026, where she entered the yard of a 50-year-old farmer with the intent to commit theft. Mathews entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to serve three weeks at His Majesty’s Prison.
In a separate matter, 30-year-old Junior Roberts, a fisherman residing in Glen, was arrested and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. Investigations indicate that on July 19, 2026, Roberts slapped a 38-year-old nurse, who resides at the same address, on the right side of her face.
Roberts appeared at the Calliaqua Magistrate Court on July 20, 2026, where he pleaded not guilty. The court granted him bail in the amount of $1,500.00 ECC with one surety. As a condition of his release, he was ordered to have no contact with the complainant. The case has been adjourned until August 25, 2026
