On October 5, 2026, police arrested and charged Cordewell James, a 41-year-old resident of New Montrose, with the offences of possession of an illegal firearm and possession of ammunition.
Investigations revealed that James allegedly had in his possession one (1) .38 revolver, serial number unknown, without a licence issued under the Firearms Act.
He was also charged with having ten (10) rounds of ammunition in his possession without a licence issued under the Firearms Act.
The offences were committed at New Montrose on October 4, 2026.
James appeared before the Serious Offences Court on October 5, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to both offences.
He was sentenced to thirty-nine (39) months’ imprisonment for possession of an illegal firearm and one (1) year for possession of ammunition. The sentences are to be served concurrently.
