The Ministry of Health in St. Vincent (SVG) advises that at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, there was a shooting incident involving a warded patient at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) in Kingstown.
While the Ministry of Health did not name the individual, the police on Wednesday told the St. Vincent Times that the victim was Connel Jack of Ottley Hall, who was shot on Sunday. Jack survived the shooting last evening, police told this publication.
The Health Ministry further stated that there were no physical injuries to any staff members or other patients as a result of this disturbing incident.
“The MOHWE, including the management team at the MCMH, wishes to commend the brave work of the team of health care workers on duty during this incident who remained focused on saving lives and the well-being of our patients. The MOHWE also acknowledges the additional support and security provided by the RSVGPF immediately after the incident.”.
The psychosocial team of the MOHWE has been activated and has commenced the provision of support to the healthcare team and the patients at the MCMH.
“The MOHWE commits to reviewing the security measures currently in place at the MCMH and our other facilities with a view to the implementation of additional measures identified to be necessary.”.
Meanwhile, in a separate shooting, police confirmed to the St. Vincent Times that Camran “Bogie’ Miller was shot and killed on Tuesday evening.
Miller’s death is the 8th homicide for 2024.
