The Embassy of the United Mexican States to the Eastern Caribbean States extends congratulations to the Government and the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on its 39th Anniversary of Independence.
Considering the importance of this celebration, the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, sent a letter to the Governor General, H.E. Sir Frederick Nathaniel Ballantyne in which he expressed congratulations for the historic events commemorated and his hope that they serve to unite the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to continue forging a successful future. Additionally, the President sent a letter to the Prime Minister, Hon. Ralph E. Gonsalves, communicating his intent to continue the spirit of friendship and collaboration between the two nations.
Similarly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Luis Videgaray, conveyed a congratulatory message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Hon. Louis Straker, expressing the determination of Mexico to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between both countries as a means to increase the opportunities for shared development and wellbeing.
The Ambassador of Mexico to the Eastern Caribbean States, His Excellency Oscar Esparza-Vargas, is currently visiting Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to participate in this year’s independence celebrations. The Ambassador took the opportunity to meet with the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Mr. Joel Providence.
Mexico established diplomatic relations with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in July 1990. Since then, the two countries have worked towards the further consolidation of these ties through the implementation of various projects in areas such as education and agriculture.
Mexico has also cooperated to improve the lives of Vincentians through infrastructure projects, like the construction of the Mexico-Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Friendship Bridge (the largest bridge in the country), as well as three smaller bridges and the embankment of the Cumberland River.
