Minister Caesar :Creating Jobs For Young Vincentians

Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture, said his Ministry is currently in the process of working along with Conservationist groups to create jobs for young Vincentians. This program falls under the twenty-point 100-day Agricultural plan, which has been very successful thus far.

Minister Caesar said his Ministry is currently working closely with the SVG Preservation Fund to conduct training sessions in Turtle Watching for the nation’s youths to protect the Hawksbill and Leatherback Turtles.

He said the Ministry is also continuing to work with other stakeholders to get in line with regional and international standards to protect the Turtles. This is important as they seek to move towards total protection of the Hawksbill and Leatherback Turtles.

Meanwhile, the Ministry continues to educate farmers on issues relating to sustainable agriculture in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Leroy Jackson, Agriculture Instructor in the Ministry of Agriculture said the aim is to increase the knowledge and competency of local farmers as a means of ensuring agricultural sustainability.

Mr. Jackson said the training focuses on several areas of critical importance, particularly water resources, pest and diseases and land degradation.
