In a powerful address marking International Youth Day 2026, Minister of Youth, the Hon. K. Cupid, celebrated the resilience of the nation’s young people while unveiling a series of government initiatives aimed at empowerment and systemic change.
Speaking under the theme, “different context, common aspirations,” Minister Cupid emphasized that despite differing circumstances, the youth of St. Vincent and the Grenadines share universal dreams of equality, quality education, meaningful employment, and respect.
The Minister’s message focused heavily on concrete actions to support the next generation. Key highlights of the government’s current agenda include:
- Skill Development: Strengthening skills training and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.
- Industry Expansion: Creating more avenues for success in sports and the creative industries.
- Entrepreneurship: Providing enhanced support for youth-led business ventures.
“Our focus is action,” Minister Cupid stated, asserting that the government is dedicated to creating opportunities so that no young person is left behind.
In a move toward greater inclusivity, the Minister announced the reestablishment of the National Youth Council and the development of a new national youth policy. Minister Cupid stressed that these steps are vital to ensure that decisions regarding young people are made with them, rather than just for them.
“Your voice matters. Your ideas matter. You deserve a seat at the table,” the Minister declared, reinforcing the government’s commitment to hearing and seeing the nation’s youth.
The celebrations are set to continue beyond International Youth Day. The Minister revealed that later this year, an entire month will be dedicated to youth, filled with activities designed to celebrate, empower, and engage young people across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Closing the address with a message of hope, Minister Cupid urged the youth to dream big and develop their unique talents.
“Never allow the size of our country to determine the size of your ambition,” the Minister said. “We may be a small nation, but there’s nothing small about the potential of Vincentian youth”.
The message concluded with a vision of a future where every young person has the opportunity not just to dream, but to achieve, lead, and thrive.
