Tobago Fishermen’s Family Seeks DNA Tests Following Discovery of Two Decomposed Bodies in SVG

Relatives of missing Tobago fisherman David McLean are seeking DNA testing in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) after two decomposed bodies were recovered from SVG waters.

McLean, a resident of Lowlands, and his friend Kester Alexander, a father of three from Buccoo, disappeared after setting out on a fishing trip from Scarborough on October 9. Extensive local searches by family, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, and aerial teams failed to locate the men.

The investigation shifted to neighboring SVG after two separate bodies were discovered within a week. The first discovery occurred on Tuesday, October 13, when the St. Vincent Coast Guard retrieved a male body floating midway between Cane Garden Point and northern Bequia.

An autopsy failed to determine the cause of death due to severe decomposition, though forensic officials successfully extracted DNA from bone marrow. St. Vincent police confirmed that no local missing person reports had been filed.

A second partially decomposed body of an adult male was discovered along Stubbs Beach at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21. The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) launched an investigation and urged anyone with missing relatives or information to contact the Stubbs Police Station or the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Although initial reports suggested the first body might not be linked to the missing men, McLean’s family has contacted SVG authorities to submit DNA samples, while Alexander’s family continues to await definitive answers
