Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, has declared victory in Thursday’s general election, with reported results showing the party securing 14 of the country’s 15 parliamentary seats and winning a second consecutive term in government.

The opposition New National Party (NNP) captured the remaining seat in St George North West, represented by Adrian Joseph, according to the latest reported results.

The outcome marks a significant political achievement for Mitchell, whose party first came to power in June 2022 after defeating the NNP administration led by former Prime Minister Keith Mitchell. In that election, the NDC secured nine seats, ending the NNP’s nine-year tenure in government.

Thursday’s result would increase the NDC’s parliamentary representation from nine to 14 seats, marking a decisive expansion of its majority and breaking the party’s historical pattern of serving only one term in government before losing power.

The victory gives Mitchell a renewed mandate to pursue his administration’s priorities, including economic development, infrastructure, healthcare, education and employment.
