- Nassau Cruise Port Confirms Record-Breaking 4.4 million Passengers
The Nassau Cruise Port staff finished 2023 on a high note, welcoming 4,490,802 guests aboard 1,210 vessels. This statistic reflects a 14% rise over the previous year’s record, reflecting the port’s outstanding growth and critical role in the expansion of the Bahamas tourism industry.
Mike Maura, Jr., CEO of Nassau Cruise Port Ltd., praised key stakeholders and expressed optimism for future expansion.
“A huge thank you to the cruise industry and its passengers, travel agents championing The Bahamas, our government partners, the Nassau Cruise Port businesses, the entire New Providence community, and, of course, our incredible Nassau Cruise Port team.” Every day, each of you makes a difference and contributes to this success. Remember that the recently revitalised Nassau waterfront provides one-of-a-kind finds, spectacular entertainment, and delectable food and drinks, with even more planned for 2024.”
In 2023, Nassau Cruise Port set numerous records. In March, the team set a new one-day passenger record with 28,554 visits, only to break it again on December 27th with 29,316 visitors. This momentum resulted in not only exceeding the yearly passenger target of 4.2 million guests, but also creating a new year-to-date record of 4,490,802 visitors.
According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism I. Chester Cooper, this amount contributed considerably to The Bahamas’ remarkable nine million plus visitor arrivals last year. Once confirmed, the nine million tourist total will be one million more than the destination’s 2023 estimates and 12.5% higher than the original projection set by tourism executives. The Minister emphasised that the rise in visitor spending is anticipated to have generated more than $6 billion, which has directly benefitted the Bahamian economy.
Motivated by this accomplishment, the port team has already set lofty targets for 2024, intending to welcome 5.6 million passengers. Nassau Cruise Port is positioned to continue its excellent development trajectory and secure its place as the region’s preeminent cruise travel destination, thanks to its commitment to providing an exceptional, authentically Bahamian experience for all visitors.
