Venezuelan Congress Approves Law for the Defense of Essequibo
On Thursday, the National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved the Law for the Defense of the Guayana Esequiba, a territory rich in natural resources that is in dispute with Guyana.
The law creates the state of “Guayana Esequiba,” which borders Guyana to the east and will be ruled by a governor appointed through elections. Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro will appoint an authority for the area.
The capital of the new state will temporarily be Tumeremo, a city located in the state of Bolivar. This city will function as the capital for Guayana Esequiba until Venezuela “reaches a practical and mutually acceptable solution with Guyana” over the disputed territory.
The National Assembly also determined that elected officials in the Guayana Esequiba state cannot be citizens who have adopted conducts that directly or indirectly favor or support Guyana’s position to the detriment of Venezuela’s claims over the Essequibo.
The text reads, “Standing and with its historical dignity intact, Venezuela celebrates the approval by the National Assembly of the Law for the Defense of Guayana Esequiba. Venezuelan men and women will never renounce our legitimate rights over the Guayana Esequiba territory. This is what we expressed in the consultative referendum of December 3. Venezuela’s sun rises in Essequibo!”

Rodriguez, at the meeting, emphasized the aggressions in the economic sector with the aim of weakening the Venezuelan state, through sanctions and blockades: “The economic aggression has an absolutely political and geopolitical background,” Delcy added, referring to the motivations behind the unilateral measures against Venezuela.
Venezuela Rejects the Fact-Finding Mission’s Accusations
On Wednesday, Venezuela defined the accusations made by the “International Fact-Finding Mission” as part of actions that Washington fosters to destabilize the political order in this South American country.
In this regard, the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil issued the following statement:
“Venezuela vehemently rejects the unfounded accusations and lies issued by the false and shameful International Fact-Finding Mission in its recent presentation to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. Once again, they violate all the principles of the United Nations Charter in order to continue trying to promote the failed ‘regime change’ policy instructed from the United States.
This ridiculous and perverse mission was promoted by the failed cartel of countries assembled in the so-called ‘Lima Group’, made up of far-right governments that were one by one ousted from power by their peoples and are now a bad memory in our region.
Most of these governments have pending human rights accounts, which have not been evaluated by the complicit and politicized system that, unfortunately, focuses now exclusively on attacking sovereign governments and peoples”.
President Maduro Reiterates Conspiracy Plan Denunciation
On Tuesday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reiterated the existence of a conspiracy planned by the oligarchy and imperialism to destabilize his country.
“Their only plan is to destabilize Venezuela and fill it with violence. They are preparing violent urban actions (‘Guarimbas’). We must consolidate peace and life at the homeland before, during, and after the July elections. We must always defeat the far right, its puppets, and the oligarchy,” he said, urging the Venezuelan people to stay alert.
“We must remain vigilant, awake, organized, and working… Venezuela, be alert! I am telling you in time,” he stated.
Previously, the Bolivarian leader denounced plans to attack Venezuela organized by fugitive from justice Leopoldo Lopez and former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.
“Leopoldo Lopez met with other terrorists such as Alvaro Uribe. They plan to attack public services in the neighboring states of Zulia with terrorists and paramilitaries… We have to defend peace, stability, and security in Venezuela. These terrorists cannot try to disrupt our economic recovery or the democratic celebration we will have with the presidential elections on July 28,” he said.

Minister Gil condemns Argentine government’s defense of fascist groups
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, made a statement, following a communiqué from the Argentine Foreign Ministry, to point out that Venezuela is not surprised that “the Nazi government of the neoliberal president, Javier Milei”, intends to become a defender and accomplice of the fascists in Venezuela.
This he indicated through his account on the social network X, in which he stressed that the Argentine government’s actions seek to distract attention from the deep crisis that Milei’s economic measures have caused in the Argentine people.
Gil, who urges the Argentine authorities to focus on solving “the disaster” they have unleashed, affirms that in Venezuela a State with institutions that protect the people does work.
“No, we are not surprised that the chancellery of a Nazi-like government, such as Milei’s, responsible for the greatest mutilation of the rights of its people since the time of the atrocious dictatorships, pretends today to become a defender and accomplice of fascists. Worry about your country, stop looking for excuses and divert the attention of Argentines in the face of the disaster you are leading them to; you will fail there and here, as you have already failed in the past. In Venezuela there is a State that works! It is a strong one, with real institutions that protect the people, justice will determine the responsibilities of those who have tried to assassinate President @NicolasMaduro and unsuccessfully plunge us into chaos”, the Chancellor published in his account.

On Friday, the National Electoral Council (CNE) continued to receive candidate nominations for the presidential elections scheduled for July 28.
CNE President Elvis Amoroso and the electoral magistrates received several opposition political organizations that will participate in the 2024 presidential election.
He recalled that the Venezuelan constitution and laws establish the requirements that aspiring candidates must meet. Once the documentation is analyzed, the CNE approves each candidate.
Accompanied by his team and supporters, lawyer Antonio Ecarri Angola submitted his documentation as a candidate of the Pencil Alliance. Addressing those present, he advocated for policies to reduce poverty, improve education, stimulate knowledge generation, strengthen the oil industry, and shape an economy that does not rely on fossil fuels.
Ecarri Angola also emphasized the importance of holding elections in an atmosphere of peace, tranquility, and harmony, with recognition of the laws and the CNE mandate. The Pencil Alliance candidate rejected the U.S. arbitrary sanctions imposed against his country.
On Friday, legislator Juan Carlos Alvarado went also to the CNE to present himself as a candidate of the Independent Political Electoral Organization Committee (COPEI), recalling that his organization has been participating for several years in dialogues for national stability, unity, and reconciliation.
Among other things, he commented that his government plan is inclusive, defended his country’s historical rights over the Essequibo, and emphasized that Venezuelans are the only ones who must solve their country’s problems without foreign interference.
Yesterday, on the first day of registration of candidatures, the Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole registered Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as its presidential candidate.
The Democratic Action (AD) party nominated Luis Eduardo Martinez as its candidate, while the opposition movement Popular Will and the AREPA party proposed Daniel Ceballos as their presidential candidate.
The presidential candidate registration began on March 21st and will conclude on March 25th. To be able to run as a candidate, a citizen must meet the requirements demanded by law, present a government plan, and submit other documents required by the electoral authorities.
Between March 28th and April 1st, the CNE judges will analyze the documentation submitted and confirm who are the confirmed presidential candidates.
Before the ongoing candidate nomination process, the National Assembly conducted a large dialogue among all political organizations legally recognized by Venezuelan laws, aimed at establishing various electoral calendar proposals.
These were considered by the CNE judges, who set the final election date for July 28th, in honor of the birth of the Liberator Simon Bolivar.
President Maduro is the Candidate of the Great Patriotic Pole
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accepted to be the presidential candidate of the eleven left-wing political parties that make up the Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole.
During a meeting with political leaders in Caracas, he highlighted the great unity among Venezuelan progressive forces.
“Let’s consolidate a great union of progressive, anti-imperialist, popular, patriotic, nationalist, and democratic forces to confront the fascist threat they intend to expand from Argentina,” Maduro said.
“Do you want them to impose far-right formulas like those of Javier Milei or Jair Bolsonaro in Venezuela? Do you want the Venezuelan political power to be captured by the Colombian oligarchy and puppets like Álvaro Uribe and Ivan Duque?” he asked.
“In Venezuela, the oligarchy and the extreme right will not return. The Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole walks with all the force stemming from the left, progressive, revolutionary, and Chavista sectors, which are more united than ever,” Maduro stressed.
Organizations such as the Venezuelan Communist Party (PCV), the People’s Electoral Movement (MEP), Homeland for All (PPT), We Can (Podemos), Tupamaro, Venezuelan Popular Unity (UPV), We Are Venezuela, Alliance for Change, Green Party, and Authentic Renewal Organization (ORA) were present at the Caracas meeting.
