Forecasters at the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in the United States said a tropical wave just off the coast of West Africa is showing symptoms of becoming a tropical depression next week.
If the tropical wave develops into a tropical depression, it will be 2023’s third tropical cyclone.
The tropical wave is causing disorganized showers and thunderstorms, according to the NHC’s 2 a.m. forecast on Friday.
“Environmental conditions appear to be conducive to gradual development, and a tropical depression could form during the early to middle portions of next week while the system moves westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic,” the National Hurricane Center said.
Forecasters expect the system to develop slowly over the following seven days.
