- Nigy Boy’s “Continent” Blazes the Charts, Reaching Millions on YouTube
The global smash tune Continent by dancehall artist Nigy Boy has been topping the charts. The song has over a million YouTube views in eight days and topped trending last Friday. It also appeared on music charts.
Nigel Hector, a visually impaired musician, is grateful for his achievement and wanted to thank dancehall Grammy superstars Shabba Ranks and Beenie Man for their song selection.
He said dancehall legends like Shabba Ranks and Beenie Man inspired him with his songs about Trailer Loads of females and ‘having females in a bundle’ respectively.
Central to the success of Continent, which was recorded on Rvssian’s Dutty Money beat, is producer himself, who the singer complimented for his musical genius and expertise.
“Working with Rvssian was a fluid and seamless process,” Nigy Boy told The Sunday Gleaner. Everything happened magically. An experience I’ll remember throughout my career, he said.
The prospective law student at SUNY claimed that he wrote Continent’s lyrics using his geographical knowledge and interactions with women from over the world.
“I decided to take a more global approach instead of focusing on girls from individual countries,” he said.
Fans call the artist a genius for avoiding overdone issues like firearms, misogyny, forbidden sex, drugs, and scamming that dominate dancehall songs.
“It’s definitely an indescribable feeling to know that I am the most trending reggae/dancehall artist,” he said. I suppose Continent got popular because its words and song composition were different from modern dancehall.
The popularity of Nigy Boy is surprising to new admirers, but he has always overcome barriers and exceeded expectations. His mother was informed by Montego Bay doctors that he would not survive birth. He survived and thrived.
The New York singer gained attention in 2021 when R&B artist Chris Brown said, “this brother is super raw” with fire emojis on Instagram. Bounty Killer, Dexta Daps, Shenseea, Jada Kingdom, Karnium, and Izy also like the Continent boss. Dexta Daps invited him to two summer 2022 shows.
Fourteen months ago, Blue & Bougie party promoter Jerry McDonald claimed he had to book him after his first large New York show, which was spectacular.
“Despite his unknown status, we felt confident booking him. Given his comparisons to The Weeknd, Usher, and Stevie Wonder, we believed Nigy would become a household star in reggae and mainstream America,” McDonald said.
Nigy Boy’s live and dubplate demand doubled after Continent.
“Bookings are coming. I am so grateful that more people are acknowledging and endorsing the skill. I want to leave a mark wherever I go, said reggae’s rising star.
Does Reggae Sumfest call after his Rebel Salute performance last year and his current popularity?
If Sumfest organisers contact me about an appearance this year, anticipate the unexpected because there are a lot of things going on. Im always eager to perform in my hometown. He said, “MoBay is my place and it’s an honour to be among people who represent the parish fully.”
Nigy Boy’s albums include Superwoman, dedicated to his mother, Waterfalls, featuring Mr. Vegas, You and I, and Lover not a Fighter.
