It wasn’t a fight I was attacked – says Lawyer Jomo Thomas
“It wasn’t a fight; I was attacked,” lawyer Jomo Thomas said on Monday, December 19, on Boom 106.9’s OMG morning show.
The former Speaker of the House of Assembly insists that Dr. Jerrol Thompson attacked him rather than engaging in combat with him.
Both men were involved in a physical altercation on Saturday at Heritage Square Kingstown after a heated debate ensued regarding the COVID-19 vaccination.
Thomas claimed he informed Thompson that immunizations should be optional rather than required, which began a discussion about statistics.
Thomas said he told Thompson to allow someone else speak and to stop acting like an jackass after the argument became so heated.
“I was taken aback by the attack; he punched me and I was shocked; he then continued to punch me”.
Thompson’s account of the incident has been disputed by Thomas. On WEFM on Monday, Thompson said the following:
“He brought forward other points, and once more I disproved him. Mr. Thomas may have felt embarrassed in front of the group because of this since he started to berate me verbally, even resorting to calling me a “asshole.” Despite Mr. Thomas exuding a very forceful vibe, given the context of the conversation, I paid Mr. Thomas no attention to this and carried on”.
“I had to physically scold Mr. Thomas for hitting me and putting me in danger, which surprised me much. I had to strike him several times to let him know that I would not put up with such behavior”.
On Monday, Thomas declared he has no plans to file a complaint.
