NOU mandates registration for all refrigerant gas importers

The National Ozone Unit (NOU) wishes to remind stakeholders that, in accordance with the Montreal Protocol (Control) Regulations, 2005, all importers of refrigerant gases, whether current or prospective, serving the refrigeration and air conditioning servicing sector are required to be officially registered and in possession of a valid Certificate of Registration. In addition, an import license must be obtained for each refrigerant gas imported, across all applicable categories.

To ensure compliance with national regulations, imports from non-registered entities are not permitted. Any contravention of these requirements may result in penalties as outlined in the regulations, including fines and the possible seizure and forfeiture of imported goods by the Comptroller of the Customs and Excise Department.

The National Ozone Unit is pleased to announce that the 2026 Refrigerant Import Registration cycle is now open. All individuals and organisations intending to import refrigerants during the 2026 calendar year are encouraged to begin the registration process in a timely manner.

To uphold industry safety standards and technical competence, please note that registration is not automatic. Applications will be assessed based on the submission of valid technical certifications and relevant professional training credentials.

The final deadline for submission is January 13, 2026. Late or incomplete applications cannot be accommodated and will not be considered.

Kindly note that the registration process is conducted exclusively online. Physical or hard-copy submissions will not be accepted at the NOU office.
