Union Island’s Young Innovators Complete NTRC MyApp Summer Program

On July 24, 2026, the NTRC concluded the first of its three (3) MyApp Summer Programs for the year with a closing ceremony at the Union Island Secondary School.

Twenty-one eager secondary school students from Union Island participated in this session which began on Monday July 13, 2026, gaining hands-on experience in coding and robotics.

Over the course of the session, students learned to code using the Micro:bit, a pocket-sized computer, and built their own robots, which they then programmed to perform specific tasks and complete challenges.

The Valedictorian of the program Shashana Defreitas was gifted a laptop compliments FLOW and will be given the opportunity to participate in the NTRC’s icode784 Competition Robotics Category later in 2026.

The second session is set to begin at the St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua on Monday July 27, 2026, for 2 weeks followed by the third at the St. Vincent Grammar School commencing on Monday August 3, 2026, for the same duration.

The NTRC extends its gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Innovation & Digital Transformation and Information, the Deputy Principal of Union Island Secondary School and our sponsors: St. Vincent Port Authority, Flow, Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Vinlec, General Maritime Agencies, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Massy Stores Ltd, and Bonadies Supermarket #2 for making this program possible. We also thank the parents of all participants for their support.
