Large Language Models (LLMs) and other neural networks are changing the way we write, interact with our phones and computers, get work done, code, search and generally live our lives daily.
From a technical standpoint, what is going on inside an LLM? How can we use LLMs programmatically? I will be running a short online course that will cover these and related topics. It will be aimed at interested Vincentian (and Eastern Caribbean) tech professionals and enthusiasts.
Topics the course will cover
- Neural networks and how they work (including tokenizers, different layers, and outputs).
- Training and evaluating neural networks.
- Using Language Models, including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and Agents. - Hosting and serving Small Language Models (SLMs)
Details
- 4 Saturdays of 1.5 to 2 hour online sessions
- 1 Introductory/Q&A session
- From late January 2026 to late February 2026
Prerequisites
- Some background in Computer Science, but interested persons can still come along to the introductory session for more details on the level.
- Computer with stable internet connection.
How much can attendees expect to spend?
- EC 50.00 for the course.
- Cost of API keys from LLM providers like OpenAI or Anthropic. The amount will depend on their usage.
