More than 100 students have benefited from this year’s “Summer With a Vision” initiative, an outreach programme organized, sponsored and executed by Greenhouse Lab SVG Inc. with the support of a number of local and international partners.
The initiative was designed to invest in the development of children and young people through education, mentorship, life-skills development and community engagement, while also providing much-needed school supplies ahead of the new academic year.
“Summer With a Vision” comprised two main components: a summer development programme and a school-supplies distribution initiative.
Through the summer programme, Greenhouse Lab SVG Inc. provided participants with opportunities to learn about agriculture, forestry, entrepreneurship, goals and values, and mentorship. Special emphasis was also placed on encouraging young people to stay away from crime, make positive choices and develop into responsible and productive members of society.
The programme brought together more than 60 participants for a range of educational and recreational activities, including a beach day.
Among those participating were young people from the Liberty Lodge Boys’ Home, who joined volunteers and representatives from several organizations in a day focused on positive interaction, recreation and community building.
Greenhouse Lab SVG Inc. also received support from members of the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, House of Prayer Ministries, the Ministry of the Families, the Forestry Department and the Ministry of Agriculture, among others.
Organizers said the involvement of the various stakeholders helped expose participants to positive role models while giving them an opportunity to interact with professionals from different fields.
The second component of the initiative focused on assisting students with school supplies. More than 100 students received school bags and supplies, helping to ease some of the financial burden faced by families preparing for the new school term.
The school-supplies initiative was supported through donations from Mr. Nerod Davis and partners in Miami, Mr. Curtis King, Devon Ambris and friends.
The summer programme also received sponsorship support from the National Council of SVG Associations UK, SVG Drips, Waypoint Enterprise, the SVG Women’s Association UK and KFC.
While expressing gratitude to the various sponsors, donors and partners, Greenhouse Lab SVG Inc. said the success of the initiative demonstrates what can be achieved when individuals, organizations and communities come together with a shared commitment to the development of young people.
According to the Chief Executive Director of Greenhouse Lab SVG Inc. Nashika Hope, both components of the programme were successful and touched the lives of many children and young people.
She said its goal was not simply to provide school supplies or organize activities during the summer, but to create opportunities for young people to learn, discover their potential, develop positive values and envision a better future.
Greenhouse Lab SVG Inc. extended its appreciation to all sponsors, donors, volunteers, government departments, community organizations, mentors, parents and participants who contributed to the success of this year’s “Summer With a Vision.”
The organization said the support received reinforces the importance of continued investment in children and young people and expressed hope that the initiative will continue to grow and positively impact even more lives in the future.
