Lands still exist on Bequia for residents of that grenadine island, this according to Minister of Lands and Informal Human Settlements Hon Montgomery Daniel.
Daniel told parliament on Thursday 5th October that the government has never departed from the policy of selling land to locals at subsidies prices.
Daniel said that sales of lands in Bequia for the period 2010 to 2017 shows that over 300 lots were made available to locals.
In 2010, 181 lots, 2011, 23 lots, 2012, 21 lots, 2013, 17 lots, 2014, 26 lots, 2015, 35, 2016, 6 lots.
As of October 2017, some 15 lots are to be taken before the cabinet for approval, Daniel said. Minister Daniel said these are the facts as it relates to Bequia over the last seven years.
“ What is interesting is that the lands would have ranged from 10 cents per square foot to as much as $ 2.50 per square foot”.
Minister Daniel says he believes the Opposition Leader could be confusing the issue of lands sold by National Properties in Bequia at market value.
He says this is done so because of the infrastructure that is put in place by the entity. The Minister said lands are available in, Hamilton, Happy Hill, Union Vale, and Camel.
