Students from 12 primary schools across the state are currently receiving support under the “adopt a classroom programme”, which is a component of the Zero Hunger Trust Fund.
The programme was designed to assist children from communities with the highest levels of poverty, with meals and other necessities, more than 300 students are benefiting.
Economic Planning and Sustainable Development Minister Camillo Gonsalves, says the programme not only provides a meal, but all textbooks recommended by the Ministry of Education, and $350 to each child to assist with the purchase of school uniforms and other school supplies.
Gonsalves said 57 of the students who received vision testing were found to need spectacles which will be provided under the Zero Hunger Trust Fund.
Schools included on the programme include: Chateaubelair Methodist, Barrouallie Anglican, Fair Hall Primary School Barrouallie Government, Sandy Bay Government, Mayreau Primary School, Fancy Government School, Rose Hall Government School, Clare Valley Government School, Calliaqua Anglican School, Lauders Primary School and Gomea Government School.
