Over 42,000 doses of vaccine administered in SVG on 42nd independence anniversary

Today, Wednesday 27 October marks 42 years of independence for the nation of St Vincent and the Grenadines, a former British colony, which became the last of the Caribbean’s Windward Islands to gain independence.

Today, the country is also celebrating another milestone, which is, administering over 42,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

“As of October 27, a total of 42,497 were administered in SVG, of the total administered 25,463 were persons who received their first dose, while 17.034 received their second dose”.

In its latest report dated Tuesday 26 October, the MOH said one (1) new death was recorded for the reporting period. A 24-year-old female who died at home on October 23rd, 2021, was found to be COVID-19 positive following post-mortem PCR testing on October 25th, 2021.

The deceased was unvaccinated. Her death brings the death toll from COVID-19 to sixty-four (64).

One thousand seven hundred and eighty-one (1781) cases are currently active and sixty-four (64) persons with COVID-19 have died. Four thousand and nine hundred and five (4905) cases of COVID-19 and three thousand and sixty (3060) recoveries have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020.

Comprising 32 islands found between Grenada and St. Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines is home to lush, mountainous rainforests and the famous La Soufriere, its 4,000ft tall active volcano which erupted on Friday 9 April 2021.
