Mekel Quashie a 29-year-old fisherman originally from Overland now residing in the Grenadines island of Bequia is now before the Serious Offences Court after he was arrested and charged by Law Enforcement Officers for the possession of 6gms of cocaine at Port Elizabeth on January 23rd, 2019.
It is reported that on the date in question police were on routine patrol at Port Elizabeth when Quashie was seen in a yard and was observed to be conducting himself in a suspicious manner.
He was approached by the police who requested a search on his person to which resulted in the discovery of the drugs.
Quashie was escorted to the Serious Offences Court on Thursday, January 24th, before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Court Prosecutor had no objection to his bail which was allowed in the sum of $1,500.00 with one surety. He was ordered to report to the Port Elizabeth Police on Mondays between 6 am and 6 pm until March 15th, 2019 when the trial is expected to commence.
