The status of government-funded scholarships and bursaries was the subject of an inquiry by Senator Peters, who sought a detailed breakdown of payments to various universities for the 2026 semesters.
The Senator expressed concern regarding whether thousands of Vincentian students were experiencing disruptions due to potential payment delays.
In response, the Minister of Higher Education reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its scholarship obligations. The Minister provided a campus-by-campus status report:
- University of the West Indies (UWI): Invoices for Semester 2 from the Cave Hill, Mona, Five Islands, and Global Campus have been received and processed through established financial procedures.
- UWI St. Augustine: The Minister noted that the Personnel Department had not yet received an invoice for Semester 2 from this specific campus.
- Monroe University: Payments were reported as being up to date, with a mid-June invoice currently undergoing verification.
The Minister addressed rumors of payment failures, asserting that all received invoices are being processed in a timely manner and that the department is working closely with institutions to settle tuition fees promptly.
