The St. Vincent Times, understands that a small plane crashed shortly after taking off from J.F. Mitchell Airport in Bequia.

According to information gathered by the St. Vincent Times, the plane took off around midday.

It is unclear how many people were on board at this time, however initial information indicates that the plane was bound for St. Lucia.

Residents in the La Pompe community captured video of the plane crashing into the water.

According to an aviation expert, the aircraft appears to have stalled shortly after takeoff.

(A stall is a condition in aerodynamics and aviation in which lift begins to diminish as the angle of attack on an aircraft climbs beyond a particular point. The crucial angle of attack is the angle at which this occurs. (If the angle of attack exceeds the critical value, the lift diminishes and the aircraft descends, increasing the angle of attack and generating additional lift loss.)

At the time, the hypothesis could be accurate, as people from La Pompe or (South Side) told St. Vincent Times that on takeoff, the aircraft made a strange noise.

“It sounded like when a vehicle was struggling for power to go up a hill,” a local resident remarked.

According to reports, the Coast Guard, together with other boats from the island, is currently at the crash site.
