There was an increase of young people attending the Playaz Youth Academy this year and they are now better equipped for the future after completing its second annual basketball summer camp.
The camp which took place from July 29 to August 10 at Arnos Vale Sporting, provided programs for boys and girls, from the novice athlete to the aspiring pro, centred on mentorship, sportsmanship, teamwork skills and guidance on and off the court.
The academy’s work received a financial boost with a recent sponsorship donation from CIBC FirstCaribbean. Country Head, Shelly Ann Samuel said the bank was pleased to be working with Playaz Youth Academy once again.
“This is an ideal sponsorship for us, as we continue to support the vibrant community of Arnos Vale which reinforces hard work, integrity, determination, teamwork, and fun. These are just a few of the life skills that the youth in our communities need and that we, as an institution, value,” Samuel said.
Orlando Fergusson, President of the Playaz Youth Academy said the youth basketball camp focused on developing the character, confidence, and disciple of the youth in our community.
“We were driven to expand Playaz Youth Academy after the tremendous interest shown by parents and children in the first year in 2018, therefore, we had no choice but to hold this year’s camp and to increase our budget in order to cater for more children.
We were able to take that step with the assistance and support of the CIBC FirstCaribbean,” Fergusson said.
