(Castries, St Lucia) – Ralph E. Gonsalves may have given an early hint that St Vincent and the Grenadines should have a new Prime Minister by the end of 2018 or early 2019.

This through a statement he made at the 65th meeting of the OECS grouping being held in St Lucia.

Gonsalves during his speech as incoming Chairman on Monday, June 18th,  2018, said he will try his best with issues that confront the sub-region. However, the Prime Minister of St. Vincent & the Grenadines also said that his duties as Chairman may not be completed in the time allotted to him.

Gonsalves said this may be so since there is transition underway in St Vincent.

” I promise to do my best with the OECS chairmanship. I am not sure if I am going to be here for the entire year because I have a transition on the way in St Vincent”.

Gonsalves, however, told OECS leaders present, that St Vincent will still carry on the role of Chairman even with a transition taking place.

Gonsalves has been speaking transition for the last 2 years, with the younger politicians in his Unity Labour Party government taking a leading role in the affairs of the administration.

While Political pundits say his son, Camilo Gonsalves, is tipped to be the country’s next Prime Minister, Gonsalves says it is up to the party to choose the next leader.
