Local law enforcement announced a string of serious charges this week following a series of arrests made between June 19 and June 21, 2026. Authorities apprehended several individuals involved in violent assaults and large-scale drug trafficking across multiple communities.
Many of the recent arrests stem from brutal physical altercations that left victims with actual bodily harm. On June 19, police jointly charged 39-year-old chauffeurs Casbert Billy and Jerald Simmons with assault after they allegedly beat a 25-year-old tire technician in Arnos Vale using their hands and a metal pipe. Both men pleaded not guilty and await a hearing at the Kingstown Magistrate Court on June 30.
In a separate incident in Paul’s Avenue on the same day, a 14-year-old minor was arrested for stomping a 27-year-old cashier on the chest and striking her head with a bicycle rim. The minor pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned to September 25.
In Bequia, 58-year-old construction worker Colstion Hutchins faces charges of assault and property damage after he allegedly struck an 83-year-old businessman with a piece of concrete block and damaged his vehicle’s windshield. Hutchins pleaded not guilty, was granted $35,000.00 ECC bail, and must report to the Port Elizabeth Police Station weekly until his July 17 court date.
Other recent assault and wounding charges include:
Romel Dunbar, a 38-year-old labourer, who was charged on June 19 for allegedly boxing a 54-year-old taxi operator in the face in Canouan.
Shady John, a 45-year-old farmer from Diamond Village, who was arrested on June 20 for allegedly striking a 71-year-old farmer in the head with a cutlass during an earlier incident in October 2025.
In addition to the violent crimes, police made significant drug busts resulting in heavy trafficking charges. On June 21, 38-year-old fisherman Samaro Pollard was caught in Belair with 2,264 grams of cocaine and 412 grams of cannabis intended for supply and trafficking. Pollard was granted composite bail of $40,000.00 ECC, ordered to surrender his travel documents, and will appear before the Serious Offence Court on July 2.
Law enforcement also cracked down on illegal narcotics in Petit Bordel on June 21, resulting in the arrests of two local farmers. Vincent Edwards, 43, was charged with possession of 15,436 grams of cannabis for the purpose of drug trafficking. In a separate arrest on the same day, 34-year-old farmer Grafton McMillan was arrested for possessing a staggering 42,222 grams of cannabis. Both men pleaded not guilty, were granted bail, and are scheduled to appear in the Serious Offence Court on July 2.
