Melissa Silvera, the wife of former People’s National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament Jolyan Silvera, died in her sleep six weeks ago, and her death is now being examined as a possible murder.
“After the post-mortem, it was discovered that she had been shot at least three times,” Fitz Bailey, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of crime and security, told the Jamaica Observer on Saturday afternoon.
“We have just begun an investigation into the matter.” We learned about it yesterday [Friday] evening and are conducting an inquiry. “That’s all we can say,” Bailey remarked.
After Nationwide News Network (NNN) reported the situation, the Sunday Observer contacted Bailey and learned that the former Member of Parliament for St. Mary Western had sought the services of an attorney.
Silvera was also questioned by police, according to NNN.
Last night, a law enforcement official told the Sunday Observer that the officers who went to the house after Melissa Silvera’s death on November 10 were “in trouble.”
“The first thing you do as police when you arrive at a scene of a sudden death is check the body for signs of violence,” the unnamed officer told the Sunday Observer.
“It’s impossible to ignore three bullet wounds.” And there must be blood splatter for something like that. “Those cops who went there must be under investigation,” the cop stated.
PNP President Mark Golding offered condolences at the time of Melissa Silvera’s death.
“My heartfelt condolences to Cde Jolyan Silvera on the death of his wife Melissa, who died last night.” “Keeping your entire family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Golding said on social media.
Jolyan Silvera, who chairs the PNP’s Founders Group, married Melissa in December 2015.
They were heartbroken when their two-year-old son, Justin, drowned in a pool at their Stony Hill, St. Andrew, home in 2017.
